Why You Should Visit

For Sake Day on 1 October, 13 sento in the Hyogo bathhouse association pour sake into their main bath. Nihonsakari, the Nishinomiya brewery, supplies 78 large bottles, six per bathhouse, added a few hours apart during opening hours. Dates differ by bathhouse, from a single day on 1 October to a fortnight at Ninomiya Onsen in Kobe. There is no extra charge; the usual admission gets you a bath scented with sake. Bathhouses in Kobe, Amagasaki, Itami, Nishinomiya and Miki take part, so it is a reason to drop into the nearest one on the way home.

Is there an extra charge?

No. The usual admission at each bathhouse covers it.

Will every bathhouse have the sake bath on 1 October?

No. On 1 October it runs at Ninomiya Onsen, Mori Onsen and Tachibana Onsen; the others have other dates or are still to be announced. Check the date for the bathhouse you plan to visit.
