Why You Should Visit

For two nights around the harvest moon, the great lawn of Daisen Park, next to the World Heritage Mozu tombs, fills with balloon-shaped LED lanterns. Write a message of thanks or a wish on yours, then float it skyward on a tether at 19:30. Entry is free, and from late afternoon there are street performers, illuminated bubbles, food trucks and fair games, so you can simply sit on the grass and watch without buying a lantern. The park's Japanese garden and tethered balloon also run night hours the same weekend, keeping the whole park open late.

Essentials

There are 1 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Daisen Park Great Lawn, and 6 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Facility data comes from OpenStreetMap. It does not include opening hours, fees or availability.

FAQ

Can I come without buying a lantern?
Yes. Entry is free with no booking. A ticket is only needed to release a lantern; you can watch from the lawn and enjoy the food trucks, fair games and illuminated bubbles without one.
How many people can share one lantern?
Up to 4 people per lantern. Preschoolers are not counted, so a family with small children needs just one. You take the lantern home afterwards.
What if it rains?
If a weather warning for the event day is in effect at 15:00 the day before, the event is cancelled and tickets refunded. The release alone may also be called off on the day; if that happens after 15:00 you receive the lantern instead of a refund. Decisions are posted on the official site and social media.
