Why You Should Visit

A moon about 5 meters across returns to the plaza in front of the Food Gallery at Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets. One side shows the lunar surface, the other the silhouette of moon rabbits pounding rice cakes, and the whole thing lights up after sunset, so daytime and evening photos look completely different. On September 21 and 22 the Kwansei Gakuin University Symphony Orchestra, whose school crest features a crescent moon, plays a short program including Debussy's Clair de Lune. October brings LEGO and Gap kids' workshops, a hands-on animal event with capybaras and rabbits, and a marche of Kobe-based makers, while nine restaurants serve moon-viewing dishes that use egg yolks and cheese as the moon. An easy seasonal stop to fold into an outlet shopping trip.

NOTE

From the organizer (Mitsubishi Estate・Simon)

"Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets is hosting an event full of autumn atmosphere. The roughly 5-metre moon that proved popular last year returns, with a silhouette of moon rabbits pounding rice cake on one side. On September 21 and 22 the Kwansei Gakuin University Symphony Orchestra performs. There are also animal encounters with capybaras, sugar gliders and, in keeping with the moon theme, rabbits, plus the Sorayume Marche held with the Kobe Industry and Employment Support Foundation. We look forward to welcoming you."

FAQ

Do I need a ticket or reservation to see the moon?
No. The moon stands in the open plaza in front of the Food Gallery and can be viewed freely during outlet hours. Only Waku Waku Creature World on October 24–25 charges admission.
When does the moon light up in the evening?
It lights up after sunset. The outlet closes at 20:00, so the lit-up moon can be seen from just after 18:00 in September and from around 17:30 in late October until closing.
Is the moon still on display in rain or strong wind?
The organizer notes the installation may be temporarily removed in severe weather. On stormy days, check the official site or social media for the day's status before heading out.
