Why You Should Visit

A winter illumination in Chuo Park, right outside Hanshin Amagasaki Station, held to mark the 110th anniversary of Amagasaki as a city. About 2,500 pieces of Hikari no Mi ("fruits of light"), a participatory artwork by artist Kyota Takahashi, hang from the park's symbol tree, a large camphor, and the trees around the lawn. Each piece is a fruit-shaped bag with a smile drawn for someone dear, lit by a small LED; local elementary school pupils and visitors to Amagasaki Castle and the tourist information center drew them. Viewing is free, and on the opening day, December 9, a night market runs as the opening event. A good stop if you want an easy winter light display right by the station.
