Why You Should Visit

The 17th autumn-leaves festival at Yabu Shrine, one of the best-known maple spots in the Tajima region, runs from November 7 to 29. From 9:00 to 16:00 there is tea service and local food stalls, and on weekends and the holiday the shrine stage hosts a changing line-up of shinobue and taiko, Tsugaru shamisen, koto and shakuhachi, brass bands and more. From sunset until about 20:00 the maples are lit up (cancelled in rain). An environmental contribution of ¥300 per person is collected; high school students and younger are free. Takeda Castle ruins are about 30 minutes away by car, so the two pair well.
