Why You Should Visit

An annual street music festival centered on Merca Road Ujikawa, an old-school shopping street just north of JR Kobe Station that still carries a Showa-era feel. It was started in 2015 by regulars and musicians from a bar on the street together with local shop owners, and 2026 marks its 12th year. The street is closed to traffic and a big wing-door truck parked along the road becomes the main stage. Stages also pop up at Honganji Kobe Betsuin (the "Modern Temple") and in front of the D51 steam locomotive at JR Kobe Station—five in all, with 30-plus acts ranging from rock bands and singer-songwriters to shamisen, rakugo and a family sing-along show. Food and craft stalls line the street too.
