cost: Free to attend; the fishermen's meal giveaway is free (first 50 servings each time). Special menu: live Ise lobster rice bowl ¥3,300 (usually ¥4,800), Ise lobster set meal ¥4,300 (usually ¥5,500), two pieces of Ise lobster gunkan ¥500 (festival day only)
Venue & access: Fisherman's Wharf Shirahama, Shirahama (Wakayama) Right by the Yuzaki bus stop. About 15 min by car from JR Shirahama Station, or 10 min from Nanki-Shirahama IC.

Why You Should Visit

A day devoted to Ise lobster at Fisherman's Wharf Shirahama, the seafood market in Yuzaki. Fishermen hand out their own staff meals for free while stocks last: Ise lobster gunkan sushi and Ise lobster soup. Inside, the Ise lobster set meal and live Ise lobster rice bowl are offered at a special price through Monday 23 November (a public holiday). There is also a tuna-cutting show by a female tuna butcher with the fish sold on the spot, a traditional rice-cake scattering and a prize lottery, making it an easy stop on a Shirahama trip, kids included.
