Venue & access: Ohara Kannonji Temple (Maibara, Shiga) From JR Omi-Nagaoka or JR Nagahama Station, take a Kokoku Bus to "Kannonji" and walk about 5 minutes. By car, about 13 minutes from Nagahama IC on the Hokuriku Expressway (parking for about 70 cars).

Why You Should Visit

Legend says that when Toyotomi Hideyoshi stopped at Ohara Kannonji during a falconry outing, Ishida Mitsunari served him the "Sankon no Cha" (three offerings of tea). This one-day history event is held at the temple said to be where the two first met. It features a reenactment of the tea story by a samurai performance troupe, a falconry demonstration along the temple approach, hands-on falconry sessions, and a talk on falconry by Ishida Mitsunari-ZIBU-, the history influencer who posts on X in character as Mitsunari. It is part of a Maibara City tourism program launched around the NHK drama "Toyotomi Kyodai!", and the same temple hosts the Mitsunari Memorial Lantern Festival on October 31.
