Venue & access: Ekimae Oshiro-dori (Asahimachi-nishi crossing) to Hikone Castle and Joto Elementary School, Hikone (Shiga) The starting street, Ekimae Oshiro-dori, runs from JR Hikone Station (Biwako Line) towards the castle. If driving, note that roads along the parade route are closed from 13:00 to 14:40.

Why You Should Visit

Held on Culture Day (3 November), this is the 73rd edition of Hikone's autumn procession through its old castle town. Around 600 participants set off from the Asahimachi-nishi crossing on Ekimae Oshiro-dori, pass City Hall, march through the grounds of Hikone Castle and along the Yumekyobashi Castle Road shopping street, and finish about 3 km later at Joto Elementary School. This year comedian Masumi Yagi (Savanna) plays the warlord Ii Naomasa, joining from City Hall together with Rossy (Yasei Bakudan). kotone and ui of the dance group Avantgardey walk with Hikonyan and the other mascots and perform in front of City Hall and inside the castle grounds. It is free to watch from the roadside.

Route

Ekimae Oshiro-dori (Asahimachi-nishi crossing) → Hikone City Hall → Iroha-matsu pines → Hikone Castle grounds → Yumekyobashi Castle Road → Honmachi → Ginza → Noborimachi → Joto Elementary School (about 3 km)

kotone and ui (Avantgardey): dance in front of City Hall before the parade, walk with Hikonyan and the mascots, and dance again inside the castle grounds

Where is a good place to watch?

You can watch anywhere along the route, but the dance performances take place in front of City Hall and along part of the castle grounds.
