Why You Should Visit
The largest mineral show in western Japan brings dealers of minerals, fossils, meteorites and gemstones to Miyako Messe in Kyoto's Okazaki district. 2026 is the 38th edition, with around 160 exhibitors from Japan and abroad. You can handle the stones and buy whatever catches your eye on the spot. There is also a special exhibition by the Masutomi Geoscience Museum, talks by specialists, and a workshop where you make a small sundial on a basalt plate. It is held indoors, and admission is free for junior high school students and younger.
