Why You Should Visit

For one Sunday a year, the old castle town of Yamato-Koriyama turns into a music town. Now in its 18th year, this community-run festival spreads more than a dozen stages across DMG MORI Yamato-Koriyama Castle Hall, a bus park, a sake brewery, a cafe inside the castle ruins and shopping streets near the station, with performers chosen through open auditions. Highlights include a marching-band stage on the high-school grounds, junior and senior high brass bands with a 100-plus mass performance in the main hall, and a gospel festival in the small hall. Almost every venue is free, and food trucks and a local market line the grounds. Wander the goldfish town and hop between stages.

Main Hall: Brass Band Stage, doors 13:30, start 14:00, ends around 16:30. Five junior/senior high brass bands plus a 100-plus mass performance, finale from 16:30 (everyone sings the theme song)
Small Hall: Gospel Festival 11:00–16:30 (8 choirs)
Reception Hall (B1F): open-audition stage 11:00–16:10
Bus Park (south of the hall): open-audition stage 11:00–16:10, GAKU-SHOKU food trucks and stalls 10:00–15:30

Yes at the main venues, including the Castle Hall stages, Bus Park, high-school grounds and Banya Cafe. Nakatani Sake Brewery and Alan Cafe & Bar require one drink, and Kingyo Cafe one order.

What happens if it rains?

Stages inside the Castle Hall are indoors and unaffected. Outdoor venues such as the Bus Park and school grounds may be changed or cancelled; check the official site and social media on the morning of the event.

Is it suitable for families with children?

Yes. The outdoor stages and marching show are free to come and go, with food trucks and a market nearby. In the hall, please be considerate about entering or leaving during performances.
