Why You Should Visit

A two-day art and music event held for the first time this year as the "art stage" of Nara Prefecture's arts festival Mingei. The venue, KITO FOREST MARKET SHIMOICHI, is a former elementary school in Shimoichi, Yoshino District, now converted into a complex with shops, a cafe-restaurant and a craft brewery. On the outdoor lawn stage, performers change by day, including Nara-born singer-songwriter Manami Yamasaki and singing magician David Chinsuko. Indoors there is a touring exhibition of the original artworks behind "Big Hata in Todaiji", a private museum and hands-on workshops such as papier-mache painting and mask making. Stage viewing is free with no sign-up, which makes this an easy autumn day out in Yoshino for families.
