Why You Should Visit

A five-night special event at Tokoin, a temple in Kaminobu, Ayabe, said to date back to the Asuka period. Bamboo lanterns line the temple grounds while projection mapping plays across the halls and surrounding trees, under the theme of old prayers meeting modern light. Entry is split into three timed sessions, with adult tickets capped at 120 per session. A good pick if you want an autumn evening out in northern Kyoto or enjoy temples after dark.

What time can I enter?

Entry is in three sessions: 17:30–18:15, 18:30–19:15 and 19:30–20:30. Last entry is 20:30.

Are tickets sold on the day?

Yes, at the on-site reception. Adult tickets cost ¥1,800 on the day, ¥300 more than in advance. Adult tickets are capped at 120 per session, so buying ahead is safer.

How much is it for children?

Junior and senior high students ¥1,000, elementary pupils ¥500, both in advance and on the day. Preschoolers are free.
