Why You Should Visit
For one night only, on October 20, Kiyomizu-dera bathes its Main Hall and the Kannon statue in pink light under the theme "Toward a World Without Breast Cancer." The ¥500 admission for the evening opening goes in full to JBCRG, a non-profit breast cancer clinical research group. The evening opens with a memorial service, and two drone shows light up the sky above the temple. The event is part of the breast cancer campaign that The Estée Lauder Companies has held with Kiyomizu-dera since 2013. It is a rare chance to see the famous wooden stage after dark before the busy autumn-foliage light-up season begins.
