Chishakuin Autumn Light-up 2026 (Chisan Koyozuki)

Why You Should Visit

Chishakuin, head temple of the Chisan branch of Shingon Buddhism in Kyoto's Higashiyama-Shichijo area, is launching a new evening light-up event this autumn. The maples in the temple grounds will appear to float above a sea of clouds created with mist, and the approach will be lined with paper lanterns. By day the temple is known for its National Treasure screen paintings by Hasegawa Tohaku and his school and for its classic pond garden. It is part of JR Central's "Souda Kyoto, Iko" autumn campaign, and full details are due in late October.

TICKETS / REGISTRATION

Priority-entry tickets are planned for sale on EX Tabisaki Yoyaku, JR Central's travel booking service; buying them requires a membership in JR Central's EX services (Express Reservation or smartEX). The sale date and how general admission works are due to be announced in late October on the Souda Kyoto, Iko autumn campaign site.

Do I need to book in advance?

Priority-entry tickets are planned on EX Tabisaki Yoyaku (EX membership required). How to get in without booking will be explained when details are announced in late October.

What time is last entry?

Last entry is 20:40 and the event ends at 21:00. The lights come on at 17:00.

Is this an annual event?

It is a new event, launched in autumn 2026. It is organized by the Chisan Koyozuki executive committee and promoted as part of JR Central's "Souda Kyoto, Iko" campaign.
