Why You Should Visit
Kobe Luminarie, a festival of lights symbolizing remembrance and hope after the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The 32nd edition runs Jan 29–Feb 7, 2027, across three venues: Meriken Park, Higashi Yuenchi, and the former Foreign Settlement. In the former Foreign Settlement, the displays center on the plaza in front of the SMBC Kobe Head Office Building, and Meriken Park has a paid section. The lights aren't limited to these three venues—coordinated illuminations also run through the former Foreign Settlement and Shinkomachi, so the walk from one venue to the next stays lit. Lighting hours and advance ticket dates will be announced later.
