Venue & access: Kisshoin Tenmangu Shrine Right by the "Kisshoin Tenmangu-mae" city bus stop, or a 10-minute walk from "Nishioji-Kujo." About 15 minutes on foot from JR Nishioji Station on the Kyoto Line. There is no dedicated parking lot and stalls fill the grounds and approach on the day, so public transport is recommended.

Why You Should Visit

Kisshoin Tenmangu Shrine in Minami Ward, Kyoto holds its summer festival every August 25. The highlight is the Kisshoin Rokusai Nenbutsu, a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, performed on the shrine's outdoor stage with rhythmic drumming set to bells and flutes and a lion dance.
