Kinosaki Onsen Summer Story: Yume Hanabi 2026

Why You Should Visit

On weekday nights through summer, a five-minute fireworks display goes up over Kinosaki Onsen. The viewing spot is the Otani River, lined with willows and public bathhouses — step out in a yukata and geta and the fireworks burst almost directly overhead. The season runs from 30 July to 21 August, but there is no display on Wednesdays, weekends, public holidays or around the Obon period: only ten nights in all. Check the calendar below before fixing the dates of your stay. On the final night, 21 August, lanterns are floated down the river before the fireworks.

Where is the best place to watch?

Along the Otani River is the recommended spot. It is close enough that you can simply pause partway through a round of the public baths.

Is there any charge to watch?

No. You can watch freely from the streets of the onsen town and along the river.
