Kifune Shrine Summer Festival: Amagasaki Danjiri 2026

Why You Should Visit

The summer festival of Kifune Shrine, guardian shrine of Amagasaki, when danjiri floats from across the city gather. The highlight is the yama-awase on the second day: two floats face each other, rear up their fronts and clash — a form found in Amagasaki and few other places. On the first day a parade sets off in the evening from south of Hanshin Amagasaki Station, and the floats enter the shrine grounds at night. The floats are hauled through narrow lanes, so the action comes close; watch where you stand.

When can I see the yama-awase?

In a typical year it starts at 18:00 on the second evening, on the road west of the shrine. Check the official site for 2026 times.

Can I bring children?

The floats are hauled at speed through narrow streets, and the yama-awase in particular carries a risk of collision. With children, follow the marshals' directions and watch from a distance.

Can I drive there?

Traffic restrictions apply around the shrine during the festival. It is about a 10-min walk from Hanshin Amagasaki Station, so public transport is recommended.
