Why You Should Visit

The bon odori long held in Kamishichiken widens its ground to Kitano Tenmangu from 2026. A yagura tower goes up in the garage on the east side of the shrine for stage performances and dancing, while food and goods stalls line Kamishichiken-dori. Geiko and maiko from Kamishichiken host visitors, which is what sets this dance apart, and the hanamachi street and the shrine grounds together become the venue for the day. Watching is free.

crepes, karaage, hot dogs, yakisoba, fries, baby castella, shaved ice, alcohol and soft drinks, and more

Hands-on booths:

the "school of Japanese things", medaka fishing, a DJ booth to try, children's stalls and merchandise

On stage:

monkey performance, student dance shows, a chanbara show, DJ time and taiko drumming by Shinjakukai

Kamishichiken-dori closes to traffic from 16:00. No parking is announced and visitors are asked to come by public transport. If the 13th is rained off, the event moves to the reserve date of Saturday 19 September.

Watching is free. Some contents are paid, and food and goods at the stalls are charged separately.

What happens if it rains?

A reserve date of Saturday 19 September has been set. Check Kyoto City's announcement on the day to see whether it is going ahead.

Will geiko and maiko be there?

Kamishichiken's geiko and maiko are announced as hosting visitors. Individual appearance times have not been published.

Is it good for families with children?

There is medaka fishing, children's stalls and a DJ booth to try, plus a monkey performance and a chanbara show. Kamishichiken-dori closes to traffic from 16:00, so it is easy to walk around.
