Why You Should Visit
A public opening of Kyo-Washinan, the former home of Tomioka Tessai, often called the last of Japan's literati painters. The Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry renovated the house to mark its 140th anniversary and to support the Agency for Cultural Affairs' relocation to Kyoto. The tea room, painting studio and tatami rooms were restored reusing original materials wherever possible. Normally used for tea ceremony and ikebana classes and business meetings, the house is open to everyone free of charge on these days, with no booking needed. It is also a stop on the stamp rally of the Bunkacho and Fucho Area Machikado Museum. A good visit for anyone interested in Tessai or historic Kyoto homes.
NOTE
Closed hours
- No viewing inside 12:00–13:00. The stamp rally stamp (at the entrance) is still available
On the day
