Price & booking: 1,500 yen; free for elementary age and under. No advance tickets — sold on site from 18:00 daily, cash only. The Nene-no-Michi illumination and the park stalls are free No booking, and none is possible. There are no advance tickets — buy at the on-site window by Daidokoro-zaka from 18:00 daily, cash only.
Venue & access: Kodaiji, Nene-no-Michi and Kodaiji Park About 7 min east on foot from the Higashiyama-Yasui bus stop. Around 10 min from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station and 15 min from Hankyu Kyoto-Kawaramachi. The organizers ask visitors to come by public transport.

There are 12 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Kodaiji, Nene-no-Michi and Kodaiji Park, and 2 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Why You Should Visit

The Higashiyama night illumination, returning in new form five years after the 17-year run of Higashiyama Hanatouro ended. Five hundred metres of Nene-no-Michi are lit, and Kodaiji opens for evening viewing including its bamboo grove, with staging by Shinichi Temmo. Kodaiji Park hosts a 40-day summer fair of kitchen cars and festival stalls from 11:00 to 22:00. Nene-no-Michi and the park are free; the paid area begins at Daidokoro-zaka and covers the temple grounds.

Avoiding the crush

The ticket window gets very busy after sunset (around 19:30)

Is any of it free?

Yes — the 500 m of illuminated Nene-no-Michi and the stalls in Kodaiji Park are free. The charge applies from Daidokoro-zaka into the temple grounds (1,500 yen).

Where do I buy a ticket?

There are no advance tickets. Buy at the window beside the entrance at Daidokoro-zaka on Nene-no-Michi, open from 18:00 daily, cash only. It gets very busy after sunset, so buying soon after 18:00 is wise.

Are there any closed days?

10 August is closed for a memorial service. Otherwise it runs daily from 11 July to 23 August, 18:00–22:00 with last entry at 21:30.
