Why You Should Visit
The Higashiyama night illumination, returning in new form five years after the 17-year run of Higashiyama Hanatouro ended. Five hundred metres of Nene-no-Michi are lit, and Kodaiji opens for evening viewing including its bamboo grove, with staging by Shinichi Temmo. Kodaiji Park hosts a 40-day summer fair of kitchen cars and festival stalls from 11:00 to 22:00. Nene-no-Michi and the park are free; the paid area begins at Daidokoro-zaka and covers the temple grounds.

- About 7 min east on foot from the Higashiyama-Yasui bus stop. Around 10 min from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station and 15 min from Hankyu Kyoto-Kawaramachi. The organizers ask visitors to come by public transport.

- No booking, and none is possible. There are no advance tickets — buy at the on-site window by Daidokoro-zaka from 18:00 daily, cash only.

- The ticket window gets very busy after sunset (around 19:30)
- The organizers suggest buying your ticket soon after 18:00, spending time at the park stalls, then entering once it is dark

- Inside the paid area: no tripods, live streaming, drones, costume dress or eating and drinking
- No pets in the paid area
- The bamboo grove is steep; some stretches are impassable with a pushchair or wheelchair
- Light rain is fine; heavy rain or a weather warning cancels it, announced on the official Instagram stories
