Why You Should Visit

A brand-new handmade market, first held in September 2026, set in Maruyama Park, Kyoto's oldest public park and a designated Place of Scenic Beauty, and the neighbouring Otani Sobyo, the mausoleum of Shinran. Around 120 booths sell accessories, fabric goods, woodwork, leather, floral crafts, ceramics and paper crafts, joined by five food trucks serving sweets and hot food. A corner for shops from Higashiyama Ward and an acoustic live stage, Gion Music Zaka, run on the same day. Admission is free, and the site sits right behind Yasaka Shrine, so it fits easily into a Gion stroll.

About 10 minutes on foot from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station, or 5 minutes from the Gion city bus stop (about 14 minutes from Hankyu Kyoto-Kawaramachi, 15 from Higashiyama subway station). No visitor parking is provided.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee or a reservation?

Admission is free and no reservation is required. Gion Music Zaka on the same day is also free to watch, and you can come and go as you like.

Does it go ahead in the rain?

Yes, it is held in the rain. It is cancelled only if a storm warning is issued for Kyoto City on the day, so check the organiser's official site in the morning if the weather looks rough.

What is on sale?

Around 120 booths with handmade accessories, fabric goods, woodwork, leather, floral crafts, ceramics and paper crafts, plus sweets and food stalls. Five food trucks are on site too.

Which parts of the park are used?

Two areas: Maruyama Park, spreading east of Yasaka Shrine, and Otani Sobyo just to its south. The Gion Music Zaka live stage is on the Maruyama Park side.
