Why You Should Visit

An evening programme at Daigoji, a World Heritage temple in southeast Kyoto, that runs meditation yoga, a Buddhist vegetarian dinner and a special night viewing back to back. The yoga takes place in the Reihokan museum's Heisei Hall, facing the National Treasure seated Yakushi Nyorai with a row of Important Cultural Property statues behind you. Dinner follows at the café inside the Reihokan, with an autumn shojin ryori menu from Ekoin temple on Mount Koya, and the night ends with a walk through the lit autumn leaves and temple buildings. It runs on three evenings, 21 to 23 November, for 50 people a night by advance booking. A fit for anyone who wants to breathe quietly in front of Buddhist statues and see Daigoji after dark in autumn.
