Price & booking: Free admission on the day (parking 400 yen per car) No booking needed to enter or watch the ceremony. The seed workshop takes 10 people per session, with priority for reservations (book with Uji City Botanical Park, tel. 0774-39-9387).
Venue & access: Uji City Botanical Park (Uji, Kyoto) From JR or Keihan Uji Station, or Kintetsu Okubo Station, take Kyoto Keihan Bus route 240 or 250 to the Shokubutsu Koen stop. By car, about 14 minutes from Uji-higashi IC (parking available)

Why You Should Visit

A one-day celebration for the 30th anniversary of Uji City Botanical Park, which opened in October 1996. Admission is free for the day, and the first 500 visitors receive a gift. Activities include a workshop making things from plant seeds, a stamp rally around the gardens, photos with a "birthday cake" made of flower seedlings, and a chance to recreate old photos in the same spots they were taken when the park opened. In the afternoon, the Green House hosts an anniversary ceremony with a live flower-and-music performance. A special exhibition on plants that people fall hard for runs at the same time. A relaxed autumn day out for families.
