Tamba Pottery Festival 2026: Autumn Village Tour (49th)

Why You Should Visit

An autumn pottery festival in Konda, Tamba-Sasayama, home of Tamba ware — one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. In 2026 it runs for ten days from 9 to 18 October, centred on the Tachikui Sue no Sato craft park and the kilns scattered through the village. The kiln-tour market, where you visit potters one by one for bargains and discounts, runs every day; the Tamba Ware Market, where 24 kilns gather in one place, is held only on the 12th (holiday Monday) and 18th. On the 10th, 11th, 12th, 17th and 18th a food and sweets marché sets up at Sue no Sato. There is no longer a big-tent mass sale, so it is a day of walking the village — best done by car or by bus from JR Aino Station.

From JR Aino Station on the Fukuchiyama Line, about 10 minutes by Wing Shinki bus (bound for Kiyomizu-dera / Museum of Ceramic Art / Konda Yakushi Onsen) to Sue no Sato-mae (first bus 9:33, no extra services). By car, about 10 minutes from the Sanda-Nishi IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway; around 10 free car parks.

No big-tent mass sale or charity auction this year.

Card acceptance varies by kiln; the Sue no Sato entrance gate takes cash or PayPay only.

Sue no Sato stays open on Tuesdays during the festival.

Kilns have irregular closing days; a 'Tamba-yaki' lantern hangs outside when open.

FAQ

Where is the pottery market held?

There is no longer a mass sale in a big tent. The Tamba Ware Market with 24 kilns is held on 12 and 18 October around the Heisei kiln at Sue no Sato; on other days you walk between the individual kilns for the kiln-tour market.

Can I go by car?

Yes — around 10 free car parks of various sizes are provided (attendants from 9:00), about 10 minutes from the Sanda-Nishi IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. Some kilns have parking too, but spaces are limited.

How do I get there by train?

Take the Wing Shinki bus from JR Aino Station on the Fukuchiyama Line, about 10 minutes to Sue no Sato-mae. The first bus is 9:33 and there are no extra services. Visitors arriving by public transport receive a Tamba-yaki lottery ticket.

Is there food?

Food stalls are only there on 10, 11, 12, 17 and 18 October, when the Sue no Sato Marché runs. On other days, Restaurant Shishigin inside Sue no Sato is open.
