The 78th Annual Exhibition of Shosoin Treasures 2026

Dates & time: October 24, 2026 (Sat) - November 9, 2026 (Mon) 8:00–18:00（金・土・日曜日、祝日は20:00まで）、入館は閉館の60分前まで、会期中無休
cost: Timed-entry tickets: Adults ¥2,000 / High school & university students ¥1,500 / Elementary & junior high ¥500 / Campus Members students ¥400. Late discount (entry from 16:00 Mon–Thu, from 17:00 Fri–Sun & holidays): Adults ¥1,500 / HS & univ ¥1,000 / Elem & JH free. Visitors 70+ also need an adult ticket. Free with a disability certificate or Mirairo ID (plus one carer) and for preschoolers. Same-day tickets sold at an on-site counter only if slots remain (¥200 issuing fee).
Venue & access: Nara National Museum, East and West Wings About 15 min on foot east along Noboriohji from Kintetsu Nara Station. Or take the city loop bus (outer loop) from Kintetsu Nara or JR Nara Station to the Himuro Jinja / Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan stop. No dedicated parking.

There are 12 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Nara National Museum, East and West Wings, and 8 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Why You Should Visit

Nara's signature autumn exhibition, showing treasures from the Shosoin repository that are opened to the public only once a year. This year 60 items from the North, Middle and South storehouses and the Shogozo are on view, 11 of them for the first time. Highlights include the Persian-style lacquered ewer (shikkohei), the clear-glass hakururi-no-hei, ivory go stones linked to Emperor Shomu and a mitsuda-painted box, all evoking life and taste in 8th-century Nara. Timed-entry tickets; doors open at 8:00.

Can I just show up on the day?

In principle you need a timed-entry ticket bought in advance. Same-day timed tickets are sold at an on-site counter only when slots remain (¥200 fee). No changes, cancellations or refunds after purchase.

When is it least crowded?

Late-afternoon slots covered by the late discount (from 16:00 Mon–Thu, from 17:00 Fri–Sun & holidays) tend to be quieter and cheaper. Fri–Sun and holidays the museum stays open until 20:00.
