cost: Free entry (books are bought from each stall). The special shows are also free.

Why You Should Visit

A six-day open-air used book fair held in the grounds of Shitennoji Temple by the Kansai Kosho Kenkyukai, a group of used and antiquarian booksellers from across the Kansai region. The fair runs twice a year, in spring and autumn, and this is the 26th autumn edition. Browse each shop's tables for paperbacks, hardcovers and specialist titles, or dig through the ¥100 bargain corner. On Oct 11 (Sun) and Oct 12 (Mon, holiday) there are free shows for families: big-book and kamishibai storytelling, ventriloquism and magic, and Nanking tamasudare bamboo-blind performance.

Entry is free; books are paid for at each stall. The special shows on Oct 11 and 12 are free as well.

Is there anything for children?

Yes. Oct 11 (Sun) has big-book and kamishibai storytelling plus ventriloquism and magic, and Oct 12 (Mon, holiday) has Nanking tamasudare and other performances, all free.

Is there a spring fair too?

Yes, the fair is held every spring and autumn. The next spring fair (24th) runs Apr 29 – May 8, 2027, for ten days.
