Why You Should Visit

The harvest festival of the Joto district of Tamba-Sasayama, home of the Habe black soybean from which Tamba black beans descend, in its 23rd year in 2026. Black edamame sales and food stalls fill the area around Joto Community Center, with matsutake rice, meat udon, wild boar soup, chestnut puffs, black bean croquettes, Sasayama beef curry and more. The stage features the Sasayama Higashi Junior High School brass band, bands and singers, and there is a first-come bingo game. It goes ahead in rain, except the stage.

FAQ

Anything to know when driving?
Traffic backs up around Tannan-Sasayamaguchi IC during the edamame season. The city recommends arriving before 10:00 and, when the IC is congested, using other exits such as Sanda-Nishi IC, Takino-Yashiro IC or Chiyokawa IC on the Kyoto Jukan Expressway.
