Why You Should Visit

Sakai, the hometown of tea master Sen no Rikyu, hosts a one-day city tea gathering in Daisen Park. On the Great Lawn the three Senke schools (Omotesenke, Urasenke and Mushakoji Senke) run a joint outdoor tea seat where matcha and a Japanese sweet cost ¥500 with no booking. The lawn also has tea-making demonstrations, shamisen on stage, and Sakai confectioners who exhibited at Expo 2025 making and selling wagashi. In the listed tea house Shin'an, an art tea session uses contemporary tea ware from the Expo, and after dark the Japanese garden hosts a night tea with Bohemian glass from the Czech Pavilion. No tea ceremony experience is needed.
