Why You Should Visit

An outdoor festival-style market held on Ohigashi-san Hiroba, the plaza in front of Higashi Hongan-ji. It revives the Kyoto Exhibition of 1871, the first exposition held in Japan, under the idea of learning from the old to create the new. Stalls for art, food, crafts and antiques fill the plaza, with Kyoto Tower and the temple in view. It is about 5 minutes on foot from JR Kyoto Station, and admission is free.
