Why You Should Visit

The fifth edition of a concert series held in Miidera's Kangakuin Guest Hall, a National Treasure, takes its theme this year from an old imayo song: "Were we born to play?" Composer Dai Fujikura has written new works based on waka poems tied to the area, performed by clarinettist Makoto Yoshida, shakuhachi player Dozan Fujiwara, Noh actor Manjiro Tatsumi and the temple's own shomyo chanters. Tickets include special entry to the normally closed guest hall and a serving of sencha, and a free ambient prelude concert takes place in the Kondo, also a National Treasure. For anyone curious to hear Japanese instruments and contemporary music inside a historic temple.
