Why You Should Visit

On August 26, the last stretch of summer break, the hot-spring sento "Nada Onsen Suidosuji" near Kobe's Suidosuji shopping street holds its first-ever summer festival. Food booths from the likes of Oton to Okan and Pizzeria ricca line up alongside dagashi (old-school candy), shaved ice and superball scooping, plus a free workshop (for elementary and junior-high kids) to make an original fan stamped with the Nada Onsen mark. A calligrapher will also create the festival's signboard live, and children take part in a hands-on "work experience" helping run the booths. A handmade neighborhood summer festival born from a local bathhouse, for grown-ups and kids alike.
