Why You Should Visit

A two-day evening market on the third floor of Ecoll Lilas, the shopping center right by Okaba Station on the Shintetsu line. Stalls come from the Kobe Regional Revitalization Corps, people who have moved out to the area and local groups working in Kobe's rural north: bamboo goods, natural stones and local vegetables on the retail side, plus game-meat sausage, spice curry and shaved ice to eat. Workshops run alongside — badge-making, geode cracking, and bamboo-dragonfly making by the Hokushin Ward Office with bamboo cleared from overgrown groves. There is live music too. It starts at 4 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, both days until 8 p.m. Admission is free.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee?
Admission is free. Purchases at the booths are paid for on the spot.
Is it good for children?
Yes — badge-making and the Hokushin Ward Office's bamboo-dragonfly session (29th) are aimed at children, and can double as a summer-holiday research project.
What happens if it rains?
It goes ahead in light rain and is cancelled in stormy weather. The venue is the indoor Fureai Hiroba, but check the organizer's and venue's announcements for the call on the day.
Do the two days differ?
Both the hours and the vendors differ. Friday Aug 28 runs 4–8 p.m. and Saturday Aug 29 runs 2–8 p.m.; Saturday has more stalls and a different set of workshops.
