Why You Should Visit

A roughly ten-minute fireworks show set to music, launched from the western breakwater of Wakayama Marina City. This year's programme uses four songs, and watching is free. The series has run since summer, with dates in July, August and September; the show at 19:30 on Sunday 11 October is the last of this year's announced dates. Marina City is a seaside complex that includes the Porto Europa theme park and Kuroshio Market, so you can spend the day there and stay on for the fireworks.

About 10 minutes by Wakayama Bus (bound for Marina City) from JR Kainan Station on the Kinokuni Line. By car, about 10 minutes from Kainan IC on the Hanwa Expressway; the Marina City car park has 3,500 spaces at ¥1,500 per day.

Does it cost anything to watch?

Watching is free. If you drive, the Wakayama Marina City car park costs ¥1,500 per day.

How long is the show?

It starts at 19:30 and lasts about ten minutes. Since it is short, arrive a little early and pick your spot so you do not miss it.

What happens in bad weather?

Strong wind, lightning, heavy rain or unfavourable wind direction can lead to cancellation or changes. Check the Wakayama Marina City website on the day.
