Why You Should Visit

An illumination that lights around 1.6 million LEDs on some 500 street trees along about 3.5 km, from JR Wakayama Station past Wakayama Castle to Nankai Wakayamashi Station and the prefectural office. In its fourth year, the route adds about 500 m from City Hall to the prefectural office, and the bulb count rises from last year's 1.3 million for a Guinness World Records attempt in the category "Most LED light units in a street illumination". Judging takes place on the opening night of 21 November, which is also the lighting ceremony and a car-free day on part of Keyaki Odori. Lights stay on until midnight, so it works for an after-work stroll or a night walk around the castle.
