Why You Should Visit

Takara Tomy's board game 'The Game of Life' played for real, with Motomachi Shopping Street as the board. This Kobe edition of the nationwide 'Machiasobi Jinsei Game' has teams of 2–6 start from Kobe Machizukuri Kaikan and walk a roughly 2.4 km course through the arcade's shops over about two and a half hours — shopping and eating along the way is fine. Top teams win prizes. Free, but entry is by lottery with applications open Sep 12 – Oct 12. Held in rain, cancelled in severe weather.

Can I enter alone?

No — teams must be 2 to 6 people. Children of elementary age or younger need a guardian on the team.

How much walking is involved?

The course is about 2.4 km and takes roughly 2.5 hours; you can stop at shops to buy things or eat along the way. Wear comfortable shoes.

What if it rains?

Held in rain, cancelled in severe weather. Motomachi Shopping Street is covered by an arcade, so most of the course stays dry.
