Koryo Kaguya-hime Festival 2026

Why You Should Visit

An autumn community festival held every year at Taketori Park in Koryo, the Nara town that claims the Kaguya-hime (Bamboo Cutter) legend. It draws over 10,000 people a day: food and craft stalls and booths from local groups fill the lawn, while 27 local groups take turns on stage with five-minute dance and music sets. On the first evening a resident act chosen by public vote performs on the main stage, followed by fireworks from around 18:30. Free, no booking needed, and easy to drop into with kids. This year's theme is "greetings".

About 17 min by bus bound for Taketori Koen Higashi from Kintetsu Yamato-Takada Station; get off at the last stop. Taketori Park's parking lot is free.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee or advance registration?

Admission is free and no registration is needed. Just come to the Minna-no-Hiroba lawn at Taketori Park during opening hours.

What time are the fireworks?

Around 18:30 on the first day, Sat Oct 17. There are no fireworks on Sunday, which ends at 16:00.

Is it held in the rain?

Yes, it goes ahead in rain but is cancelled in severe weather. Check the Koryo Town official page for same-day decisions.

Can I drive there?

Taketori Park has a free parking lot, but with over 10,000 visitors a day it can fill up; consider the bus from Kintetsu Yamato-Takada Station.
