Why You Should Visit

A hands-on disaster-preparedness event on the plaza north of Kobe Port Tower, with booths from the fire service, police and waterworks bureau. Admission is free, and this is the fourth edition. Saturday features a water fire-extinguisher drill, a smoke house, the Yurerun earthquake-simulator truck and emergency-food tasting by Kobe Gakuin University students; Sunday brings police rescue vehicles, a water tanker and an emergency water-supply drill. Both days offer CPR and first-aid practice, a pet-preparedness display with dog-training demos, and a disaster-quiz stamp rally. A good stop for families who want to learn with their kids what to do first in an emergency.

Is there a fee?

Entry and the hands-on booths are free; only food-truck items cost money.

Is the program different on Saturday and Sunday?

Yes. The fire station, earthquake simulator and Bousai Joshi are on Saturday; the police, waterworks and guitar concert are on Sunday. CPR practice, dog-training demos and the stamp rally run both days.

Does it go ahead in the rain?

It goes ahead in light rain and is cancelled in severe weather.
