Venue & access: Inland districts of Kishiwada (Higashi-Kishiwada, Minami-Kamori, Yagi, Yamadai, Yamadai-Minami, Yamataki) Right off Higashi-Kishiwada Station on the JR Hanwa Line (about 30 min by rapid train from Tennoji). Road closures apply across the districts on festival days, so driving is not an option.

Why You Should Visit

The October half of the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival. Where the September festival runs on the seaward side around Nankai Kishiwada Station and Haruki, October belongs to the inland districts such as Higashi-Kishiwada, Yagi and Yamadai, with JR Hanwa Line stations Higashi-Kishiwada and Kumeda as the nearest stops. The yarimawashi right-angle turns are just as fierce, and with fewer tourists than September the neighborhood-festival atmosphere is stronger. Trial run Oct 4, eve Oct 10, main day Oct 11.

Rules for spectators (from each district's official map)

No standing on stepladders or stools to watch
Umbrellas are dangerous; wear a raincoat if it rains
Keep strollers and bicycles off the course, and don't follow behind a float
Don't step over a float's ropes while it is resting
In Yagi, the area inside the red line is off limits; watch from inside the yellow line
No drones

September or October: which Kishiwada Danjiri Festival should I see?

September runs on the seaward side around Kishiwada Station and Haruki, with the famous Kankanba corner, paid Viewing Seats and the biggest crowds. October belongs to the inland districts such as Higashi-Kishiwada, Yagi and Yamadai; you watch from the roadside for free and there are fewer tourists. The yarimawashi turns are just as fierce in both.

When and where is the best place to see the yarimawashi?

The afternoon parades are the easiest time to catch them. On the 10th: the Minami-Kamori parade at Shimomatsu Station from 13:00 and the Yamadai eight-town parade from 13:30. On the 11th: the parade in front of Higashi-Kishiwada Station from 13:00 and the Yamadai ten-town joint parade from 13:30. Yamadai's official map marks three yarimawashi viewing spots on its course.

Can I see the floats at night?

Yes. In the Yagi district the floats run lantern-lit from 19:00 to 22:00 on both the 10th and the 11th.

Do I need a ticket or a paid seat?

No. The October festival is watched from the roadside for free. The paid Viewing Seats are a September-festival service, and Kishiwada City's October information lists no paid seating.

Which station should I use?

It depends on the district, all on the JR Hanwa Line: Higashi-Kishiwada Station for Higashi-Kishiwada, Shimomatsu Station for Minami-Kamori, and Kumeda Station for Yagi. For Yamadai-Minami and Yamataki, walk from Kumeda Station to the Kumeda Koko-mae bus stop and take the Nankai Bus Ushitaki line to Inaba (Yamadai-Minami) or Uchihata Kaikan (Yamataki). You can't come by car; there is no parking nearby.
