Why You Should Visit

The autumn grand festival of Kango Shrine, held every year on October 16 and 17 just a short walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. On the evening of the 16th, the eve festival features a kagura sacred music and dance offering, with night stalls set up in the shrine grounds. On the 17th, after the main rite, a procession sets off at noon: a portable shrine (mikoshi), tengu, children's floats and lion dancers parade through the streets of central Nara. An easy add-on to a day around Nara Park or Naramachi.
