Venue & access: Three districts across Izumiotsu (Hamahatcho around Otsu Shrine / Anashi around Izumi-Anashi Shrine / Sone-Sukematsu around Sone and Sukematsu Shrines); the 12-town union runs along Izumiotsu Chuo-sen About 10 min on foot from Izumiotsu Station (Nankai Main Line) to Otsu Shrine (Hamahatcho); the 12-town union runs east of the station along Izumiotsu Chuo-sen. Roads across the city are closed to vehicles on festival days and there is nowhere to park, so come by train. The city's Fureai Bus does not run on festival days (4, 10 and 11 Oct).

Why You Should Visit

Izumiotsu's autumn festival runs across three districts every October; in 2026 the main days are Sat Oct 10 and Sun Oct 11, with a trial run on Sun Oct 4. Nineteen danjiri floats take part: eight from Hamahatcho (Otsu Shrine), four from Anashi (Izumi-Anashi Shrine) and seven from Sone-Sukematsu (Sone and Sukematsu Shrines). The signature sight is Hamahatcho's kachiai, where a float charges at full speed and slams head-on into the one ahead — a move found nowhere else. The 12-town union of Anashi, Sone and Sukematsu holds its joint run and parade on the 10th, while the miyairi shrine entries concentrate on the 11th. Roadside viewing is free.

Highlights

Hamahatcho's kachiai: a float charges and slams head-on into the one ahead. Hamahatcho also calls the lion carving on its floats "onikuma" rather than the usual "shigami"
Anashi: non-stop yarimawashi turns at the Toyonaka Post Office and Tadachi intersections from 6:00 on the eve; on the main day the Iinoyama rite follows the shrine entry at Izumi-Anashi Shrine
Sone-Sukematsu: turns at the Satsuki-dori intersection east of Kita-Sukematsu Station; the joint parade laps the same course three or four times

FAQ

Where can I see the kachiai?

Only the eight Hamahatcho floats (Otsu Shrine district) do the kachiai. It happens on their route around Otsu Shrine, west of Nankai Izumiotsu Station, with the biggest crowds around the shrine entry on the 11th. The Anashi and Sone-Sukematsu districts focus on yarimawashi turns and do not kachiai.

Do I need a ticket or reservation to watch?

Roadside viewing is free and needs no booking. The city's announcement lists no paid seating.

Is it OK with children?

Yes, but the floats run at full speed and the kachiai spots get very crowded. With small children, the calmer trial run on Oct 4 or watching the daytime parades from a distance is the safer choice. Never step onto the float route.

Does it run in the rain?

Senshu danjiri festivals traditionally run rain or shine. For severe-weather decisions by each town, check the official site and district social media on the day.
