Why You Should Visit

The most important grand festival at Ikuta Shrine, praying for the safety and prosperity of the Chuo-ku and Hyogo-ku communities on an 11-district, 11-year rotation. Kagura dance, bugaku, and local traditional arts are dedicated inside the shrine. The Shinkoshiki procession is also held in conjunction — either on the afternoon of April 15 or on a nearby auspicious day chosen each year — with over 500 participants stretching for about 1km through Kobe's streets. Osaki Taiko drums, the Sarutahiko deity, Kajiwara warriors, lion dances, adorned children, and a 100-plus-person adult mikoshi announce spring in Kobe beneath blooming double cherry blossoms.

NOTE

The host district rotates every 11 years. Check the official website for the 2026 host district. The Shinkoshiki procession date is chosen each year — either the afternoon of April 15 or a nearby auspicious day. Check the official website for the 2026 schedule.
