Why You Should Visit
For three evenings, Goshikizuka Kofun — the largest keyhole-shaped burial mound in Hyogo — opens after dark, with the historic site lit by candles and other lights. Returning after last year, the event includes a curator's talk on the mound, and the Goshikizuka Kofun Museum, opened in April 2026, stays open until 19:30 with a candle-making activity inside. From the museum's second-floor terrace you can see the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge at night. Entry is free, but you need to book online in advance; about 650 places per day are allocated first-come, first-served. A good evening for anyone curious about Japan's ancient burial mounds, seen by candlelight.
