Why You Should Visit
A one-day-only tour pairing Bridge World — the climb to the top of an Akashi Kaikyo Bridge main tower — with a walk around Maiko and a takomeshi (octopus rice) lunch. Organized by Hyogo Prefecture's Kobe Prefectural Center as a certified Kobe Field Pavilion program. In the morning, local history writer Takamasa Sasaki leads a walk through the traces of modern Kobe history around Maiko Station. In the afternoon you walk about 1 km along the normally closed maintenance walkway beneath the roadway and ride up to the tower top, about 300 m above the sea. Limited to 20 people by lottery; a good fit if you want both the bridge's engineering and the neighborhood's history in one day.
