Why You Should Visit

A lantern festival held each spring and autumn at Furukawacho Shopping Street in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward, right by Higashiyama Subway Station. The autumn 2026 edition is the 23rd, with a Halloween theme. The popular bread festival and a handmade market run at the same time, and shops along the arcade prepare special items for the day. There is a Halloween parade for children, and a kids' crafting corner, "Chibikko Asobiba! Monozukuri Hiroba," at Shirakawa Life Academia. Admission is free. A good stop for families exploring Higashiyama who want to browse bakery stalls and snack their way along a local shopping street.
