Why You Should Visit

DCM Akashi, a home centre in Chaenba-cho, Akashi, sets up a special area in its car park for a two-day gardening festival, now in its second year. Stalls sell flower and vegetable seedlings and potted plants, around 650 varieties of succulents straight from the grower, garden trees, foliage plants and herb seedlings, plus outlet deals on gardening supplies and bulbs. Makers' staff at each stall explain varieties and growing methods, and there is a container-planting lesson with instructor Kumiko and a gardening talk by Omi of team solo. DIY Club pop-up workshops (free to ¥500) and food trucks round it out — useful if you are shopping for autumn planting.
