Why You Should Visit

Held on Culture Day at the Akashi Municipal Wholesale Market, where the city's catch is auctioned, this festival is all about eating and understanding local fish. The food court serves dishes made with Akashi seafood, including stalls from restaurants in the city and trial products developed with Kibi International University. A touch pool lets you handle fish landed in Akashi, and this year a fish-filleting class runs by popular request. On stage, visitors can join a mock fish auction, with same-day sign-up on a first-come basis. Entry is free, and it suits families who want to see how fish gets from the sea to the table.
