Why You Should Visit

A neighborhood summer festival in the hot-spring town of Arima, one of Kansai's most storied onsen. Held at the riverside Arima Shinsui Hiroba, it lines up food stalls and game booths like target shooting, with live shamisen from the local Arima Shamisen Club. Bon-odori dancing starts around 7 pm, and you can join the circle alongside the town's geiko and residents—a hallmark of Arima. It's an easygoing evening event, perfect after a soak in the springs or as part of an overnight stay.
