Why You Should Visit

The autumn grand festival of Arai Shrine in Arai-cho, Takasago, held on the Saturday and Sunday closest to October 10. Its signature is Niwaka Daiko, a Takasago City folk cultural property performed by the shrine's youth association, which tours the neighborhood on both days to stage its show; the 2026 piece is "Uesugi Kenshin: The Battle of Kawanakajima." There is also a mikoshi procession, drum floats from six neighborhoods entering the shrine, and float clashes at Azami Park on the evening of the main day. Food trucks set up in the shrine grounds.
